DIY Spring Wreath Tutorial: How to Make a Unique Moss Wreath in Minutes!

February 24, 2023 by Bre Leave a Comment

Looking for a unique DIY spring wreath to make? Look no further! This beautiful moss wreath is unlike any other!

My sweet grandma recently moved into a senior apartment complex and we quickly learned that having cute door decor is a MUST. Not only does it create a happy atmosphere, but it’s a great conversation starter, too!

I was glad to create a pretty spring door hanger for her that works for the whole spring season (and also for Easter).

And, I’m willing to bet that this DIY spring wreath idea is different from ones you’ve seen before. Not because it’s a moss wreath, but because it’s a moss purse wreath!

Who knew there was such a thing as a moss purse? Not me until I stumbled upon a shelf of moss purses at Michaels!

A moss purse form can be embellished to become a pretty spring wreath or table centerpiece.

Not gonna lie – at first I thought this moss purse form was weird.

But two days later I couldn’t get it out of my mind, so I went back to buy one. And I’m so glad I did because I turned it into the cutest spring wreath! Wait until you see how adorable it is!

DIY Moss Purse Wreath Supplies

These are the supplies I used to make the wreath as shown in this post. Feel free to supplement to make the project your own! Also, some links are affiliate links. Please read my disclosure policy for more information.

  • Moss purse form
  • Faux flowers (I used a mix of tulips, peonies, and some smaller white flowers)
  • Plaid wired ribbon
  • Fabric bunny floral pick
  • Floral foam
  • Floral wire
  • Floral cutters
  • Scissors
  • Utility knife

How to Make a Unique DIY Spring Moss Wreath

This pretty wreath comes together in a snap. I think you’ll be surprised how quickly you can make this for your own spring decor!

Floral Foam

The inside of the moss purse is not very large, so begin by cutting a floral foam block into thin pieces, about .25 – .5″ wide.

Put floral foam inside the moss purse.

Then, push the floral foam blocks into the base of the moss purse.

Add Faux Flowers to the Moss Purse

Gather a variety of faux flowers and use floral cutters or diagonals to cut the stems down to the desired size/length.

Push the stems into the floral foam and make sure they’re secure.

To make this spring door hanger, I started by putting the pink and yellow tulips in first. Next, I pushed shorter and fluffier faux peonies in underneath the tulips. This helped hide the plastic lining inside the moss purse. Finally, I added a few stems of small white flowers throughout the arrangement.

Embellish with a Bunny Floral Pick & Ribbon

To make this spring wreath festive for Easter, too, I nestled a bunny floral pick in amongst the flowers. If bunnies aren’t your thing, skip this step or opt for a different type of floral pick!

Then I used wired ribbon to make a bow, and I attached that to the front of the moss form.

Use wired ribbon to create a pretty bow for the spring wreath.

Using a little bit of floral wire, I created a hanger on the back handle of the purse so that it could become a wreath.

And that is all it took to make a pretty spring wreath that my grandma will love!

One thing to note: this moss purse is totally freestanding, so you could use this as a pretty Easter centerpiece or spring table decor if you prefer! Also, switch up the flowers and embellishments, and this could be a really pretty bridal shower centerpiece or birthday party decor!

A moss purse form can become a beautiful table centerpiece! Use it as table decor for Easter, a bridal shower, and more.

I love how “fancy” it is – just like my grandma! It reminds me of how we used to go shopping together. She LOVES shopping! đŸ™‚

If you enjoyed this post, I’d appreciate it if you’d share the love and save this graphic to Pinterest! Oh, and you also might enjoy this other Spring Door Hanger or my DIY egg tray wreath!
