Golden Acorn Craft Sign

October 18, 2015 by Bre 27 Comments

This acorn craft for adults is adorable! Use acorns from the yard to make an adorable fall sign!

Last week my mom brought me a bag of acorns that she’d collected from her yard.  They were beautiful and I knew I needed to use them in a project.  I cleaned them up and dried them in my oven.

And then I glammed them up and created this golden acorn craft sign, which is perfect for my fall home decor!

This acorn craft is adorable! Use acorns to make a cute fall sign. This is an easy acorn craft for adults.

That little squirrel in the word “GATHER” totally makes me smile.

Golden acorns add a fun touch to a cheeky decorative sign for fall. Get the full tutorial on how to make one right here!

To me, the word “GATHER” is synonymous with fall. It’s a time of harvest, where crops are collected, and it’s a time of family, where people come together. This sign, with its cheeky squirrel and his prized acorns, reminds me of that.

Supplies Used for this Acorn Craft

  • Acorns
  • Gold Rub ‘N Buff
  • Plain wood plaque
  • Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Primitive and Vintage
  • Foam brushes
  • Americana Decor Creme Wax in Clear and Dark Brown
  • Letter stencils (or Silhouette machine and vinyl)
  • Squirrel silhouette
  • Leather cording

How to Make This Acorn Sign

First, if you haven’t already preserved the acorns, wash them off and bake them at 220 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 2 hours. This will prevent the acorns from getting moldy.

Once cool, apply a light coat of Rub ‘N Buff to the bottom portion of each acorn.  If the caps have fallen off, reattach them with hot glue.

Hot glue the acorns to leather cording that has been cut to a length slightly longer than the wooden plaque you’ll be attaching it to.

Paint the wooden plaque. I used two coats of Americana Decor Chalky Finish Paint in Primitive.

Once dry, affix a vinyl stencil made on an electronic cutting machine that reads “GATHER” (with a squirrel silhouette serving as the “A” in “GATHER”).

Alternatively, affix letter stickers to the plaque. If you want the “A” to be a squirrel and you don’t have a cutting machine, download an image of a squirrel silhouette and trace that onto the plaque.

Paint over the vinyl stencil or the stickers. If you’re using stickers and have drawn in the squirrel silhouette, be careful and paint around the squirrel.

Remove the stencil and/or stickers to reveal the contrasting paint beneath.  Seal the paint with creme wax, and add some dark wax for a vintage look.

Staple the leather cording with attached acorns to the back of the wooden plaque.

Fake Pumpkin Witch Halloween Decor

September 29, 2015 by Bre 4 Comments

Turn a fake pumpkin into an adorable witch craft for Halloween!

One of my most favorite holidays is Halloween, and it’s not because of the candy.  (OK, it may actually be because of the candy.  But let’s pretend it’s not.)  The crisp air, kiddos’ excitement, and adorably tacky decor that accompanies the holiday all factor into my love of Halloween!  So it’s no surprise that I like to start my decorating a tad bit early, like with this super cute fake pumpkin witch that I put together in under fifteen minutes!  Turn a fake pumpkin into an adorable witch craft for Halloween!

Early Fall Door Decor (That Easily Changes With the Seasons!)

August 27, 2015 by Bre 4 Comments

Ugh.  I’m sort of hating myself right now.  You see, I promised myself that I absolutely would not post anything fall-related until mid-September at the earliest.

But then I made this early fall door decor.  And I caved and decided to post it now anyway.  Because the truth is that I am so far behind schedule on all of my other projects that I really had nothing else to write about now.

I hope you’ll forgive me.  And I hope you like it.  (And I hope you “Pin It.” Ha!)  This monogram fall door decor is a quick project! Use velcro to attach the letter and embellishments for a quick change with the seasons or holidays!

My Pilgrim friends are now fashionable with a diamond necklace and a feathered cap!  They’re ready to P-A-R-T-A-Y!FUnky Pilgrims Vases for Thanksgiving
