Of course you could just pop one of these into a frame, but wouldn’t they look adorable printed in a smaller size and turned into a bunting/banner?  That’s what I’m planning to do for my fireplace mantel.  I just didn’t have time to do that before writing this post.

How else would you use these vintage patriotic printables?

DIY Fourth of July Wreath Made with Dollar Tree Supplies

I can’t believe it’s that time of year again where patriotic decor is lining the shelves.  The Fourth of July will be here before we know it!  Last week my daughter begged me to take her to Dollar Tree so she could buy her daddy a Father’s Day present (so sweet), and while we were there I picked up some supplies to make a fun Fourth of July Wreath that took ten minutes TOTAL to make.  I promise!  Make a DIY Fourth of July Wreath with supplies from Dollar Tree! This wreath cost $5 total to make! The tinsel garland adds a festive and sparkly touch for the Fourth of July.

This tinsel garland wreath is so sparkly and fun for the Fourth!  It reminds me of fireworks.

I made a tinsel garland wreath for Christmas long before I was blogging, so I was excited to have a new holiday to make one for!  Anyway, RUN to Dollar Tree and Bullseye’s Playground at Target (formerly the Dollar Spot!), and get what you need to make this adorable tinsel garland wreath for the Fourth of July.

  • Wire wreath form (from Dollar Tree)
  • Fourth of July tinsel garland (from Dollar Tree)
  • Fourth of July headband with glitter stars (from Dollar Tree)
  • Chalkboard Star (from Target’s Bullseye’s Playground – it was actually just $1!)
  • Hot glue gun and hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Chalkboard

To learn how to make your own tinsel garland wreath for the Fourth of July watch this fun video I made showing you just how to do it!  The only thing to mention is that I cut the sparkly stars off of the headband (not shown in the video) to glue onto the chalkboard star.

If you enjoyed this project, please pin this post to Pinterest or share it on Facebook to share the love!  I’d really appreciate it!

USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger

I’m not a big decorator for the Fourth of July (or Memorial Day or Labor Day), but I do like to have a little bit of Americana on display to help celebrate the USA’s birthday.  I sort of feel like it’s my duty as an American and a blogger.  When I found this plain wooden USA shape at Michaels for 70% off (it was $2.99, people!), I just knew I had to turn it into my newest piece of decor for all of the patriotic holidays we have in the U.S.  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

With some paint, buttons, and fabric, I spiffed it up and turned it into this adorably rustic USA wooden flag map door hanger!  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

I love its sweet simplicity.  I think it’s a perfect addition to my Fourth of July decor.

  • Wooden USA cutout (linked product is similar to the one I used.  I could not find the product I purchased at Michaels online.)
  • Red and Blue craft paint or chalky finish paint (if the wooden cutout you use is not pre-painted white, then you’ll also want to purchase white paint)
  • Paintbrush
  • Small flat-back buttons (These would be perfect!  I wish I had them in my craft stash for this project!)
  • Wood glue
  • Navy fabric scrap
  • Scissors or pinking shears
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Optional: twine or ribbon to hang (if your wooden USA cutout doesn’t come prehung like mine)

How to Make a Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger

If your wooden USA cutout isn’t prefinished white like mine, paint it white.

Next, mark off a partial square in the top left corner and paint it blue.  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

Using a ruler or straight edge, draw horizontal stripes across the rest of the map.  Paint alternating stripes with red paint.  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

Glue buttons into the blue square with the wood glue.  I only had nine buttons so I went with it.  You could use as many or as few as you want.  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

Cut a fabric scrap and tie it to the hanging part of the wooden map.  (If your map didn’t come prehung, staple twine or ribbon to the back to create a hanger.)  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

Patriotic Embroidery Hoop Wreath

Thank you to DecoArt, Inc. for sponsoring this post.  The project and opinions are all my own.

Whew.  It’s been so long since I’ve posted that I honestly could not even remember the web address for the site I use to write these posts.  Or my username and password, for that matter.  Thank goodness I had that written down in one of the gazillion lists I keep.  (There is a method to my madness!)

Anyway, as some of you reading this post know, I took a blogging break for the past month to be in Wisconsin with my family because my father was extremely ill and battling brain cancer.  Sadly, he passed away on June 5.  I will forever be grateful that I got to spend so much time with him during his last few days, and that upon his passing he was surrounded by some of the people who loved him most.  I know he’s in a better place now — no longer suffering from the effects of the wretched disease that took so much from him — but I can’t help but feel sad because I know I can’t call him for a quick chat anymore or see him whenever I want.  I hope the weight of that feeling will lessen with time.

Upon my dad’s passing, I debated whether or not to return to blogging.  Writing about craft projects and home decor seemed so inconsequential and, in a way, foolish.  But, after some time and introspection, I realized that I truly missed it.  And in not blogging, I felt like I was missing a part of myself.  So I decided to give it a try again and see what happens.

My dad always loved celebrating any of the holidays, so I feel like this patriotic embroidery hoop wreath that I created for DecoArt is a good project to get my blogging wheels turning again.  It’s happy and festive, which I know my dad would want me to be again, too.  This unique embroidery hoop wreath will add a perfect touch of Americana to your front door for any patriotic holiday! Fourth of July Firework Wands

Hi, friends-

Do you have your Fourth of July plans in place yet?  I do not.  I have no idea what we’re doing except that we will be watching fireworks at some point, somewhere!

I’m always a little nervous about the Fourth of July because my husband wants to set off like a million fireworks, despite the fact that we live in a congested area, and practically on top of our neighbors.  He also thinks that it’s okay for our little kids (ages 2 and 4) to use sparklers and those things you throw on the ground that snap, crackle and pop (no – not Rice Krispies . . . those weird smoke things).

Anyway, I can barely light a candle without freaking out, so I am not into my kids playing with sparklers and all that jazz.  So . . . I made them some safe “firework wands” that GLOW IN THE DARK (allegedly . . . this is according to the label on the bottle of paint I used . . . we haven’t tried them in the dark yet)!  Perfect for use during fireworks displays!

These were super easy to make and my kids are really excited about them!  My daughter wants to “share them with all of her friends.”

I didn’t take pictures of the assembly process because I’ve been a little pressed for time, but if you want to make your own, you’ll need these supplies:
– Wooden dowels (cut to desired size, or you’ll need a saw to cut your own)
– Acrylic paint
– Glow in the dark acrylic paint
– Small screw eye hooks
– Fabric strips or ribbon strips
You literally just paint your dowels with your desired color and then add the glow in the dark paint afterwards.
Once the dowels are dry, put an eye screw hook into the bottom of each dowel.
Cut your fabric or ribbon into your desired width and length and then tie through the screw eye hook.
Leave the top plain, or embellish with any accent you like.  I hot glued foam star floral picks to the top of each of mine.
blank
OK, now I’m feeling a little generous today, so I’m giving you a chance to win a set (4) of these wands for your favorite kids!  All you have to do is have liked my Facebook page (here) and liked the post on that page about these firework wands.  Easy, right?  The winner will be randomly selected the morning of Friday, June 27.  Good luck!
