Dollar Tree DIY Fourth of July Decor: Firecracker Decorations

May 19, 2022 by Bre 1 Comment

Have you seen a cuter Dollar Tree DIY Fourth of July Decor project? Make these DIY firecrackers to light up your holiday display!

Put your patriotic spirit on display with this Dollar Tree DIY Fourth of July Decor project. These DIY firecracker decorations will put the sparkle in your celebrations!

Make these DIY firecracker decorations for your Fourth of July decor! This is an easy Dollar Tree DIY Fourth of July decor idea.

As soon as I saw some adorable vertical signs with star cutouts at Dollar Tree, I knew I had to turn them into firecracker decorations for my Fourth of July decor. I could see them looking perfect with my Dollar Tree DIY Fourth of July Wreath!

The signs are sturdy and well-made, so they’re the perfect base for a lasting holiday decor piece.

Let me show you how to make your own patriotic firecracker decor with Dollar Tree supplies – you’re going to love this!

DIY Firecracker Decor Supplies

These are the supplies I used to make the firecrackers as shown in this post. Feel free to substitute items to personalize this project however you like!

  • The star cutout vertical signs I used are no longer sold, but you can use these Dollar Tree wood planks and stencil on a star or glue on a star.
  • Six thin wood pieces, like the Dollar Tree Tumbling Tower game pieces
  • Masking tape
  • Craft paint – red, white, and blue
  • Silver pipe cleaners or chenille stems
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Craft knife and ruler
  • Hot glue gun
  • Paint brushes – 1″ craft brush and foam dauber
  • Recommended: wood filler

Dollar Tree DIY Fourth of July Decor Instructions

First things first, if you make this I recommend doing something I did not do: fill the holes at the top of the signs once you remove the twine hangers. I should have done that!

Once the wood filler is dry, use a craft knife and a ruler to cut two of the vertical signs at the base. You’ll want to have each of the signs be a different height.

Dollar Tree vertical signs with star cutouts are the perfect base to make DIY firecracker decorations for the Fourth of July.

Next, paint these bad boys.

I taped them off so that I could paint the tops blue and the bottoms red.

Once that paint dried, I added polka dot detailing to the bottoms of two of the firecrackers with a foam dauber. I taped off the center of the other firecracker so that I could paint a stripe.

Dollar Tree star cutout signs are the perfect base for DIY firecracker decor.

To add dimension to this firecracker display, I hot glued game pieces from Dollar Tree’s version of Jenga along the edge of two of the firecrackers, and then glued the firecrackers on top of one another.

Use Dollar Tree Jenga wood blocks to make space between the firecrackers.

This helped separate the firecrackers from one another and gave the decor more of a 3D look.

I wrapped silver pipe cleaners around my fingers and glued those to the top of each firecracker, because obviously these needed wicks!

Pipe cleaners serve as wicks on these festive Fourth of July firecracker decorations.

And finally, I tied them all together in a cute little firecracker bundle with some extra-wide burlap ribbon. (Don’t worry – I made sure to bush off all of the pipe cleaner and ribbon debris you see in this picture!)

Tie the firecrackers together with burlap ribbon to create a cute Fourth of July decoration.

The Finished DIY Firecracker Decorations

And with that, these patriotic firecracker decorations were ready to go on display! First I tried them outdoors . . .

and then I moved them inside next to the limewashed stone fireplace.

I can’t decide where I like them better! Maybe they’ll just keep moving around, or maybe you’ll leave me a comment below and let me know where you think they look best!

USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger

I’m not a big decorator for the Fourth of July (or Memorial Day or Labor Day), but I do like to have a little bit of Americana on display to help celebrate the USA’s birthday.  I sort of feel like it’s my duty as an American and a blogger.  When I found this plain wooden USA shape at Michaels for 70% off (it was $2.99, people!), I just knew I had to turn it into my newest piece of decor for all of the patriotic holidays we have in the U.S.  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

With some paint, buttons, and fabric, I spiffed it up and turned it into this adorably rustic USA wooden flag map door hanger!  Show your patriotism with this cute USA Wooden Flag Map Door Hanger project! It's an easy DIY that's perfect for the Fourth of July.

I love its sweet simplicity.  I think it’s a perfect addition to my Fourth of July decor.

  • Wood glue
  • Navy fabric scrap
  • Scissors or pinking shears
  • Ruler
  • Pencil
  • Optional: twine or ribbon to hang (if your wooden USA cutout doesn’t come prehung like mine)

Patriotic Embroidery Hoop Wreath

June 25, 2015 by Bre 16 Comments

This unique embroidery hoop wreath will add a perfect touch of Americana to your front door for any patriotic holiday!

Whew.  It’s been so long since I’ve posted that I honestly could not even remember the web address for the site I use to write these posts.  Or my username and password, for that matter.  Thank goodness I had that written down in one of the gazillion lists I keep.  (There is a method to my madness!)

Anyway, as some of you reading this post know, I took a blogging break for the past month to be in Wisconsin with my family because my father was extremely ill and battling brain cancer.

Sadly, he passed away on June 5.

I will forever be grateful that I got to spend so much time with him during his last few days, and that upon his passing he was surrounded by some of the people who loved him most.  I know he’s in a better place now — no longer suffering from the effects of the wretched disease that took so much from him — but I can’t help but feel sad because I know I can’t call him for a quick chat anymore or see him whenever I want.  I hope the weight of that feeling will lessen with time.

Upon my dad’s passing, I debated whether or not to return to blogging.  Writing about craft projects and home decor seemed so inconsequential and, in a way, foolish.  But, after some time and introspection, I realized that I truly missed it.  And in not blogging, I felt like I was missing a part of myself.  So I decided to give it a try again and see what happens.

My dad always loved celebrating any of the holidays, so I feel like this patriotic embroidery hoop wreath that I created for DecoArt is a good project to get my blogging wheels turning again.

This unique embroidery hoop wreath will add a perfect touch of Americana to your front door for any patriotic holiday!

It’s happy and festive, which I know my dad would want me to be again, too.

This unique embroidery hoop wreath will add a perfect touch of Americana to your front door for any patriotic holiday!

You can find the step-by-step instructions and photos on how to put this patriotic embroidery hoop wreath together right here on DecoArt’s website.

I wrote the tutorial, so if you have any questions you can leave them right in the comment box of this post!

This unique embroidery hoop wreath will add a perfect touch of Americana to your front door for any patriotic holiday!

It’s a fun project that will give you a unique piece of decor for your front porch!

This is probably the most decorating I’ll do for the Fourth of July, so I’m glad it’s at least a cute and original piece! Do you decorate for the Fourth?
